Six children chosen from six schools in the Limbe I municipality have been selected to undergo a Bootcamp training in Yaounde.             The training on the use of digital and new technologies will focus on three main themes: coding, programming and assembly of drone.
The selection process took place at SONARA school in Limbe on Tuesday November 26, after the children did presentation of the projects they created using digital technologies, what they intend to realize with it and why they love new technologies.  21 children from six schools took part in the competition to select the representatives from Limbe. The schools include SONARA School, Saker Baptist College Limbe, Unic Secondary School, National Comprehensive High School, College Ngea and GBHS Limbe. The purpose was to find the potentials of the children in digitalization.
In his welcome speech, the Director of SONARA School Marc Boyer stated that it is very important for his school to participate because digital knowledge is very necessary in the society and so vital to be taught in schools right from kindergarten. He added that everybody has to endeavor to learn to use digital tools.
The Boot Camp training is schedule for Yaoundé from Dec 18-22, 2019. The training is under the Cameroon child and digital 2019 program that is organized by the promoter of the project and CEO of Africa business solutions, Desire Makani 11 with support from United Nation’s Children Emergency Fund, UNICEF. The program according to the promoter of the project is aimed at promoting the use of new technologies in schools and youth centers in the country.

The BootCamp will see to it that the young people selected will benefit from support with theoretical presentations and practical exercises as well as help expose the children’s talent, imbue young people with a desire to develop their creativity and ability to find solutions through digital technology. The second purpose of the project will be to raise awareness among schools and organizations of the important role of digital learning through communication and promotion of the event.
Base on their finding, he stated that in Cameroon, new technologies are at the centre of economic interests and represent an opportunity for the government to develop quickly and improve public services.
“We want to contribute to the popularization of the use of new technologies in schools and youth centers. Today, 2 out of 10 schools offer computer courses and only two companies offer specialized training in digital technology. We hope that within 3 years, 3 out of 10 schools will be able to offer computer courses and/or digital training to students and a 10% increase in the number of specialized training centers”.
He said their focus was on five large cities with electrical installations and equipped to provide the necessary tools for digital use and also for their strong entrepreneurial potential. The cities selected were Edea, Limbe, Douala, Yaoundé and Bafousam.
Maeleys Ndoh a student from SONARA School came first followed by another student from the same institution. The boy who took the second position, Apouza Lufred said the secret he used to win the hearts of the jury was to say the truth and speak passionately about his dream job of becoming a professional Camera man and a journalist by making effective use of new technology.
The project began with a Roadshow which started from November 21-29 where 30 young people were selected to participate in the training. He said the program seeks to train 30 youths across the nation this year and the 30 children from the selected cities. Each city had to provide six children for the boot camp training.
