Sensitization on GBV intensifies in B’da
As this year’s campaign on 16 days activism against Gender Based Violence, GBV enters the second week under the theme “Orange the World: Generation Equality,” Community of Practice, CoP members with Cameroon Baptist Convention Health Services, CBCHS have not relented efforts to animate the social media platform.
Trending hash tags as #orangetheworld, #gender_DiDCoP, #CBCHS have been pressing hard the campaign on Twitter, Facebook and WhatsAppfora. The ultimate goal is that this message reaches the ends of the earth, transform communities as stipulated in SDG 5.
Prior to this campaign engagement, members of CoP constituting over 50 humanitarian organisations assembled on CBC Center, Nkwen to launch their activities during which members shared their success stories not leaving out challenges in their efforts to curb Gender Based Violence in the North West Region of Cameroon.
Activities such as sketches, artistic performances geared towards highlighting the need to strike a balance between the male and female folks, stamping out GBV of any sought animated the day and message delivered.

Cameroon is one of the countries reputed for GBV practices with at least 50% of women and girl children victims of GBV either inscribed by patriarchal cultural beliefs or physical, political, economic dominance.
As defined by the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, “all acts perpetrated against women, which can cause them harm or physical, sexual, psychological, and economic suffering, including the threats to take such actions, the imposition of restrictions or arbitrary deprivation of fundamental freedom, whether in private life or public life, in peacetime, in complicit or war” constitute GBV.
This definition which is corroborated by other international protocols and laws are at the center of driving the world towards equality and curbing the victimization of people by virtue of their sex.
The campaign to end on December 10 is expected to raise awareness and reminder on the need for rights of women to be protected in Cameroon like the rest of the world.
