In what can be seen as a determined effort to motivate and encourage parents, students and teachers in all the five sub-divisions of Donga-Mantung division to get set for back to school, in September, for the 2019 school year, the Secretary of State in the Ministry of Mines, Industry and Technological Development, Dr. Fuh Calistus Gentry, has decided to re-orientate and re-organize what used to be the Ako-Misaje Scholarship Fund, which he initiated in 2008, to now reflect the reality of the current socio-political situation in NW and SW regions.
Dr. Fuh Calistus on Friday 9 August, in Yaounde, launched what he now calls the 'Donga-Mantung Scholarship Fund', with the aim to finance efforts towards effective school resumption in the five subdivisions of Donga-Mantung, in September this year.
For this maiden edition of the Donga-Mantung Scholarship Scheme, the vision-bearer of Donga-Mantung division, has single-handedly made available a whopping sum of fcfa 15 million to be immediately put at the disposal of education stakeholders to help them to prepare for the effective start of schools for the new academic year.
Placed under the coordination of the divisional delegates of secondary and basic education and under the supervision of the SDO for Donga-Mantung, the scholarship scheme targets essentially "children of displaced parents and orphans and PTA teachers in localities where many teachers have run away, stated Dr. Fuh Calistus in a press release announcing the scholarship scheme.
It also seeks to give out motivational prizes to hard-working students and teachers in places where school is operational, further stated the release, which notes that the Fcfa 15 million would be made available in three disbursements of 5 million each: The 1st disbursement that would be made available immediately, would be used to assist and motivate parents and students towards preparing for back to school. The second disbursement of 5million will be used to motivate and encourage hard-working students and teachers, while the third disbursement will finance prize awards to excellent students and teachers.

This pilot edition of the Donga-Mantung Scholarship Scheme will go operational as from 15 August 2019. Subsequent editions will witness an increase in the financial package especially if this first edition realizes the expected results,
Commentators have hailed the 'wonderful initiative' by the indefatigable Dr. Fuh Calistus, with many calling on other elites of Donga-Mantung to emulate the good example and also make their modest contributions in the much-needed effort to salvage the education and the future of the youths of Donga-Mantung in particular, and Cameroon at large.
"I am not surprised by this huge financial sacrifice made by Dr Fuh Calistus to spur the youths of Donga-Mantung to go back to school. As the vision-bearer of Donga-Mantung division, Dr. Calistus cannot sit and watch how the future of a generation of Donga-Mantung youths is jeopardized by a senseless and misguided war of independence," said Ndicho Anthony Tangwa, a Yaounde resident Donga-Mantung indigene.
"I will chip in my own modest contribution to support this wonderful gesture by our political leader. I cease this opportunity to call on all Donga-Mantung elite to emulate and support this wonderful project launched by Minister Fuh Calsitus, why not?" Ndicho beckoned.
It should be noted that for three years running, since October 2016, most schools have remained shutdown in most parts of the NW and SW regions. This started when teachers in the two regions embarked on a sit-down strike to protest against what they considered as the government's policy and attempts to erode the English sub-system of education that operates in these regions.
The situation got worse after Ambazonia separatists took up arms and called for permanent ghost towns and schools boycott until independence is granted.
