In an effort to continue to
articulate the Cameroon Baptist Convention Health Services Mission Statement of
extending quality care to all who need it as an expression of Christian love
and witness, the Chief of Centre for Nkwen Baptist Health Centre, NBHC, Mrs.
ChimiEmerencia and the Head of NBHC Pharmacy, Mr. NforGamngong Emmanuel under
the leadership of the CBC Director of Evangelism and Missions, Rev. Fimba Felix
visited the Bamenda Central Prison on January 29, 2014.
Speaking
during the visit, the Director of Evangelism and Missions said the prison visit
has become one of the top priorities of the CBC. He mentioned that his last
visit to the prison with food and dresses necessitated this second visit
stating that it is one of Jesus’ commands for Christians to visit and pray for
prisoners.
The
Man of God prayed for the prisoners before proceeding to hand over drugs worth
a circa FCFA 217, 000 to the Nurse in charge of the Prison Clinic. The drugs
included antibiotics, painkillers, worm medicine, anti-malaria, antiepileptic,
gastric medicines and drugs used for skin problems.
In
response, the Superintendent of the Bamenda Central Prison expressed profound
gratitude at the generosity and wonderful gesture of the CBC team.
With
the assistance of the Nurse in charge of the prison clinic, the NBHC team
offered medical consultations to some 122 male inmates, four female inmates and
two Prison Guards giving a total of 128 patients.
Mrs. NgongNassah revealed to The Median that
after the medical consultation, they referred and provided transport fare to
one HIV case that had defaulted treatment for lack of transport to go to the
hospital for refill. She also said arrangements would be made to transfer the
treatment files of two TB default cases from Bafut to Nkwen Baptist Health
Centre for better follow up and that arrangements would be made for the health
centre eye team to visit the prison for eye screening.
