SOWEFCU targets 4000 tons of cocoa in 2014

By Eddy Bokuba in Kumba
Farmers of the South West Farmer's Cooperative Union (SO.W.E.F.C.U.) have made a pledge to market at least 4000 tons of Cocoa in 2014 using a budget of FCFA 385 Million. They made the revelation during their annual General Assembly meeting that took place recently at the Union's office in Buea Road, Kumba.

According to Esapa Patrick Enyong, President of S.O.W.E.F.C.U LTD, Kumba the aim of the meeting was to present the Union's accounts to the assembly and adopt the budget for 2014. He said it was also an opportunity for the new board to present a balance sheet to the General Assembly and explain negotiations done with some partners. Esapa opined that SOWEFCU now boasts of partners in Germany, Italy and Brazil. With the coming of these partners especially those from Italy, S.O.W.E.F.C.U would open up a new trade line in the sales of wet Cocoa which is an added advantage to the company, Esapa said. Since it is still an innovation in the business trend in Cameroon, SOWEFCU would always be there to train farmers on modern techniques of producing quality Cocoa, he said, boasting that if they are able to have up to 4 partners within just a short period of their stay in office, it is because of their transparent management.
He urged all farmers to put their heads together and bring the Union to the level it attained in yesteryears, especially now that the Minister of Agriculture is taking interest in the Union.
Speaking earlier, the General Manger of SO.WE.FE.CU Achire Elizabeth said despite set backs the Union was able to market about 24 tons of Cocoa in three months. She called for total collaboration and commitment from all the members.
