By Ajongakou Santos & Bertrand Ambe in Buea

Some economic operators, administrative personnel and civil society actors both in the public and private sectors of the South West Region have agreed to join the chain of support in helping Cameroonian’s defence forces fight against Boko Haram.
While chairing the come-together of the region’s elites and administrators, South West Governor, Bernard Okalia Bilai, emphasised on the timeliness of the action which he said is necessary to ensure Cameroon’s security. He further stressed “It is not obligatory for business operators, private and public official but an act of free will and a call for patriotism for our fatherland’’

Some security challenges that provoked the come-together include highway robbery, pirates at the high sea and terrorism. The numerous deaths, displacements, and mass instability in the Far North of Cameroon and the entire Central African Sub-Region from the terrorist group; Boko Haram are among the sundry reasons that prompted the population of the South West Region  join the patriotic fight against terrorism and all forms of violence.
To match words with action, South West Elites and administrators put in place an executive committee with the governor of the South West Region at the helm, then the regional delegation of communication and the chamber of commerce. The committee is supervising the collection of contributions (in cash and kind). This comes after several other regions and Non-Governmental Organisations have done same to support Cameroon’s army fight terrorism. The contributions are expected to come in within two weeks such that the support is not delayed.
“Given that the South West Region is known to be the bread-basket of Cameroon, it is time to proof its worth” by meeting up with these voluntary contributions the governor expressed.
