After tragic train derailment:

MTN Foundation rushes medical aid to victims
MTN official hands over carton of medication to Minsante rep.
The MTN Foundation has handed over “a significant amount of medication” to the Ministry of Public Health (MINSANTE) to assist in the care of victims of the train accident that occurred at Eseka on Friday 21 October 2016. The ceremony to handover the medication took place on Saturday at the Headquarters of the Emergency Operations Centre of the MINSANTE in Yaounde, a release from MTN’s Corporate Affairs Department said Saturday.
It noted that the medication was destined for use by the emergency aid workers deployed by the MINSANTE to assist the injured victims of the tragic train accident.
At least 70 people were killed in the accident, while more than 500 others were injured in the crash, according to official sources.

While MTN can immediately do anything about the dead, she however believes the injured persons are in urgent need of medical aid.

As the leading telecommunications operator in Cameroon, MTN is always committed to supporting State institutions and assisting Communities through its Foundation, stated the release, which adds that such support is normal and natural to MTN because of its values as an African company.
”There are over 500 people who need urgent medical attention. In the face of such a situation, it is natural for us to show our solidarity, reason for our modest contribution which we hope will reinforce the capacity of the teams catering for the wounded, and assist victims of this accident”, explained Melvin AKAM, Executive Secretary of the MTN Foundation.
Apart from the medications handed over, MTN Foundation has promised additional support depending on the evolution of the situation.
The handover of the medications to the MINSANTE came barely days after the MTN Foundation also handed over three newly constructed modern primary schools in Buea, Kumba and Ekondo-Titi to the Ministry of Basic Education.
The MTN Foundation is the first ever corporate foundation to be created in Cameroon.
