General Pierre Semengue uncertain about the new season |
The Professional Football League of
Cameroon that was programmed to begin on February 12 has been pushed forward to
Saturday, February 25.
Following
a statement published on the league website without further explanation as to
why the league has witness another postponement, the opening match between
Canon FC of Yaounde and Bamboutos FC of Mbouda will be played in Yaounde.
In
a communiqué signed on January 30 by the league’s Secretary General, ‘the
football league that was due to begin on February 4 was pushed to February 12
for the football family to mobilize behind the lions in the finals of the 2017
AFCON’.
Before
the postponement, the league was scheduled to begin on December 11, 2016 but
was shifted to January 21 due to the 2016 AWCON.
Three
days to the kick-off, the board of directors of the league through the league
President, General Pierre Semengue said, the league cannot begin on January 21
due to lack of money.
As
of now, the league is witnessing a third postponement and sport pundits are
worried as to whether the league will finally begin on a new date.
Worries
have also been expressed as to how Cameroonian teams expected to participate in
continental competitions will performs well given that they have not play any
league game.
The
kick off saga of the league has become a regular issue experienced every
season. Last year, the 56 edition of the Cameroon Professional Football season
witness similar postponements but later on kicked off in February and ended in
October.
A
communiqué from the league office selected already ten stadiums for the league
matches. These stadiums included amongst others, LimbeOmnisport, Yaounde
Military Stadium, Buea Municipal Stadium, Yaoundé Annex 1 and 2 stadiums.
