Over 400 Kumba city dwellers have benefited
from a one day free eye screening campaign organised by the Kumba District
Hospital Director, TchakounteAwala Sandrine Emmanuelle EspenoeBiwole as a gift
from the hospital to the population of the Division.
The
one-day campaign according to Dr. Lemondem Clara, an ophthalmology nurse at the
hospital, was to enable the population check the integrity of their eyes
especially given the dusty dry season. She noted that the campaign was also
motivated by the reluctance observed among the population to pay the 1500 FRS
levied as consultation fee during normal consultations.
To
encourage a massive turnout for the campaign, the hospital director, Dr.
TchakounteAwala Sandrine, said the first 20 persons to show up will benefit
free eye ointments, while the first thirty will benefit medicated eye glasses
if detected with eye defects. love and
concern for the population she serves has equally made her to offer free of any
charge the correction of any refraction case notice during the campaign.
The
ophthalmology nurse in charge of the eye unit, MrsLemondem Clara revealed,
Uviatris, allergy conjunctivitis, Glaucoma, and Cataract were the most common
eye problems detected among the hundreds who turned out for the one day
campaign.
"The
dusty nature of the dry season contributes enormously to the increasing number
of eyes cases that we have record during this period," she said.
Patients
who turned out for the campaign said the gesture was timely opportune. They
expressed gratitude to the hospital authorities.
It should be noted that Dr.
TchakounteAwalaEspeNoeBiwole replaced Dr. EbongoZachs, an ophthalmologist who
was moved to the Buea regional hospital in the same capacity. Dr.
Tchakunte took office on 28 September 2016 and is continuing with the good
works of her predecessor in the domain eye care.
