The Social Democratic Front SDF organ
condemned the abduction, kidnapping and the arbitrary arrest of unarmed
innocent citizens by the forces of law and order, wanton killings, rape,
torture and intimidation, the arrest of members of the judiciary likewise the
incessant militarization of English Cameroon.
This
was during an extra ordinary meeting of the National Executive Committee of the
SDF, NEC on Jan 28, 2017 in Bamenda where it also regretted that president Biya
is keen to negotiate and pay huge sums of money to the terrorist group like
Bokoharam for the release of some hostages whereas he is unwilling to dialogue
with teachers and lawyers for the future of Cameroon.
NEC
members also condemned the disconnection of internet and other avenues of
communication, criticized the attitude of the national communication council
for stifling communication rights of the people by prohibiting debates on
federalism in the media.
Talking
to the press after the executive meeting, the first vice president f the SDF,
Joshua Osih said the emergency of the meeting was precipitated by the trend f
things in the country
“Many
things have happened and are happening very fast with some going out of hand
and it was very necessary of the highest organ of the party to meet and draw up
resolutions to address happenings within Cameroon. The way forward is for
inclusive dialogue, the need for a constituent assembly that shall hold a
constitutional debate” said Osih
In
a press release signed by the National Chairman of the Social Democratic Front,
SDF, the party through its national executive committee, NEC ”called on the
Biya regime to bring book all the perpetrators of human rights abuses by the
forces of law and order and the administration, enjoining the Biya regime to
immediately bring to an end the de-factor state of emergency and militarization
in English Cameroon,.
They
also invited the Council of Peace and Security of the United Nations and the
African Union to enjoin Biya to stop the exactions perpetrated on its own
citizens reiterating that all successful nations exercise devolution of powers,
most of which do so through federalism, which is not a threat to national unity
but a viable factor of unity in diversity and equitable development.
NEC
insists that those apologists and sycophants of the current status quo who are
opposed to any constitutional reforms are the minority beneficiaries from the
regime of the current situation
They
again declared their support for the teachers and the lawyers in their struggle
for a better Cameroon affirming that the Biya’s regime is solely responsible
for the present crisis that has put national unity in jeopardy.
At
the close of the meeting, the party however, empowered their national chairman,
Ni John FruNdi to seek ways and means in collaborating with religious
authorities, political and opinion leaders to get the country out f the current
impasse
