The National Commission of Human Right and Freedom have called on individuals to enjoin the government of Cameroon to release striking professional leaders who were apprehended as a prerequisite for school resumption. The call was made by stakeholders during a meeting they had with the National Commission of Human Rights and Freedom at the chambers of the Buea Council on Thursday February 2 2017.
Administrative, traditional, political, religious and social leaders and other stakeholders answered present to deliberate with the National Commission of Human Rights and Freedoms. Chaired by the Vice chairperson, Prof. James Kobila, he emphasized that the commission has as objective to promote and protect human rights in Cameroon, reason why they serve as reference points to all human rights violations in the country which is represented vertically and horizontally.

During the discussions, stakeholders asked questions patterning to the current social unrest in the Anglophone regions of the country such as the arbitrary arrests of peaceful protesters and the leaders of the striking parties. They equally proposed solutions to the protest by calling on the government to release the arrested protesters, bring back the internet amongst others.
After the discussions, the commission visited some prisons and detention centers, observing and questioning some individuals for better understanding of the situation they are going through.
At the end of it all, stakeholders hoped and believed that the commission will submit their proposals to the government for positive feedback so that peace can return to the Anglophone regions of the country and that schools should resume come Monday 6th February 2017.
