The 2017/2018 Cricket season in Cameroon has ended with Emergence ladies cricket club of Mvogada, Yaounde, lifting the coveted Cameroon Cricket Cup in the women’s category, while Warriors Cricket Club Yaounde lifted the trophy in the Men’s category.
Emergence ladies beat their counterparts of Academy cricket club by 48 runs to 47 in a hotly contested match in the New Deal Sports complex of the University of Yaounde I.
The team of coach Abega, overpowered the Academy ladies at the cup finals, after they had finished in second place in the domestic championship.
It was Emergence’s third participation at the finals and they attributed their victory to hard work and experience.
“We had to win because we planned our game well and followed all the instructions given by our coach. Our victory is the result of team work and determination,” said one of the players of Emergence.
It was the sixth Cricket Cup finals in the ladies category, while the men were playing their 12th final.

The highpoint of the day was the men’s final which saw Warriors Cricket Club of Yaounde walloping their Cop Pioneers counterparts by 87 runs to 30.
Though emerging as the 2017/2018 champions and beating Warriors to second place in the domestic league, the rather experienced and confident Cop Pioneers cricketers could not beat the 87 runs target set by the boys of Warriors during the first aiming.

It should be noted that Cop Pioneers were playing in their 4th consecutive final.
Reacting after their victory, Warrior’s marksman Kevin Ojong Agbor, attributed their victory over Cop Pioneers in the cup finals to hard work and determination.
“I am very happy for this victory because it has been a befitting and happy revenge for us. Cop Pioneers had beaten us in the domestic league to emerge as the champions for 2017/2018. So, we had to train very hard ahead of the cup final and we came back stronger than ever before. Our victory has been most deserving. It is the result of hard work and determination.”
The hundreds of spectators that joined the representative of the Minister of sports and physical education and other dignitaries to witness the final ceremonies all expressed satisfaction for a beautiful and compelling finals.

“More than ever before, today’s finals have been very interesting. I think Cameroon cricket has come of age. It is for this reason that more and more Cameroonians are taking interest in the game. The crowd that came to witness the final today is testimony to this. I cannot help congratulating Fecacricket, especially the president and his team for the marvelous job they are doing to vulgarize cricket in Cameroon. With what I have seen today, there is no reason I should not recommend to hierarchy to consider giving more support to Fecacricket. I must say I am going back home satisfied, very satisfied indeed,” said the MINSEP representative.
Winners of the finals lifted coveted trophies, while players and staffers of the federation who distinguished themselves throughout the season were also awarded prizes. You can see for yourself that the level of cricket has grown considerably, and we can only be happy and proud for that. I think our boys and girls are now fit for international competitions.
