Can Biya’s Anglophone Allies Meet the Ambazonia
Challenge?
-The CPDM “natural candidate” for the presidential
election, incumbent president Paul Biya, has chosen party militants to
supervise and coordinate his campaigns towards a sweeping victory come 7
October. But many are asking how really possible the campaigns will go in the
troubled Anglophone regions of the country. Pundits say it will be a suicide
mission for PM Yang, Musonge and others
By Ekum-Tambe Eku in Yaounde
The national president of the ruling CPDM party who is
also the “natural candidate” of the party in presidential elections, Paul Biya,
has on 31 August 2018, signed several notices creating committees to coordinate
and supervise his campaigns ahead of the 7 October presidential election.
According
to the notices that were published in the CPDM party newspaper, L’Action, a total
of six commissions will coordinate the campaigns at national, regional and
divisional levels,
While
the campaigns will be centrally supervised and coordinated from the party
headquarters in Yaounde, decongested teams will coordinate the campaign exercises
at the regional and local levels.
The CPDM
scribe, Jean Kuete, will be the overall supervisor of the campaigns. He will be
assisted by a central coordination composed of party big names including CPDM
First Vice President, Fon Angwafor III Solomon, Rene Emmanuel Sadi, Niat
Njifenji Marcel, Ebenezer Njoh Mouelle, Nfon V.E Mukete, Yaou Aissatou and
Essomba Auguste.
At the
regional level, Prime Minister Philemon Yang heads the NW coordination. He will
be assisted by Fon Anang Francis. For the SW, the Rt. Hon. Peter Mafany Musonge
will be assisted by the ailing John Ebong Ngole.
Members
of the NW coordination include: Regina Mundi, Achidi Achu and Baba Danpullo.
The two charges de mission are Mwana Bernard Sama and Okie Johnson Ndoh, who
intriguingly, is of SW origin.
The
members for the SW are: Nfor Tabetando, Prof. Nalova Lyonga, Bernard Forju and
Ndoh Bertha. The two charges de mission are Dr. Humphrey Monono and Oben James.
The
question that many are asking is, how would these persons get to the field and
campaign, given the fiery and deadly nature of the Ambazonia fighters, who have
vowed that no election organized by Yaounde will take place in NW & SW.
It
should be noted that the Amba boys have already sent word around that any
persons coming for campaigns in the NW and SW will be doing so at their own
peril.
The boys
are said to be mounting road blocks and stopping vehicles to identify persons
in possession of voter’s cards which they seize and destroy.
Yet,
however foolhardy it will be for any persons to think of going for campaigns in
NW & SW, the CPDM hunting dogs will have no choice than to take the risk.
They must do this if they must defend the confidence their boss has placed in
them and if they intend to keep their positions and the privileges that come
with those positions.
As the
date for the start of campaigns fast approaches, government is already taking
measures to ensure security. Recently the DGSN issued a release notifying
police agents that no requests for permission or leave will be entertained
until further notice.
