Gov’t Supports Clubs in CAF Competitions

The government has dished out millions to two of its football clubs, New Stars of Douala and Coton Sport of Garoua to boost their preparation for the return leg of the CAF Confederation Cup this weekend after defeats in the last games.
New Sports Minister, NarccisseMouelle Kombi, handed the clubs FCFA 30 million each after a meeting with the club representatives on Wednesday last week.
FaustinDomkeu, President of New Stars football Club told the Cameroonian sports news site kick442.com  early Friday that, the money is already with the concerned clubs.
Domkeu said: “the money from the Government is for the children…I thank the Minister for this support and we tell Cameroonians to come with us to Limbe, we will make them proud”.
The New Stars strongman confirmed that the same amount was given to the Garoua-based club to enable them prepare for the return leg and reverse the losses of the first leg games.
Domkeu has also placed an extra motivation of FCFA 500,000 per player in case of victory.
New Stars will welcome GorMahia football club of Kenya at the NgemeOminisport Stadium in Limbe, while Conton Sport travels to Ghana to face AshanteKotoko.

In the first leg, Coton Sport suffered a 3-2 defeat at the Yaounde military stadium, while New Stars were beaten by a 2-1. Both clubs thus need a two nil win this Sunday to remain in the competition. No Cameroonian club has ever progressed to the group stage of the competition in the last five years.
Financial challenges have been identified as the major hurdle for Cameroonian clubs each time the step on to the continent to defend the nation.
In the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup games, grumblings erupted over the non-availability of State support to the clubs.
