Disgruntled CPDM militants demonstrating in Buea |
The reorganization of the basic organs of the CPDM has ended in Fako III, Buea with many militants disappointed with the outcome. Many militants especially supporters of Buea Mayor Patrick Ekema said they were taken aback when the list of candidates to run for different elections were published with the list of Patrick Ekema not included.
With this shocking development, supporters of Ekema Patrick immidiately rallied at Bongo square from where they staged a protest match to the DO’S office. The striking militants carried placards and chanted songs calling for Ekema’s list to be included among the contesting lists. “We want Ekema’s list reinstated; there will be no elections without Ekema,” some of the placards read.
However, before the mob arrived at the DO’S office, gendarmes and police officers were already stationed there to prevent them from carrying out any destruction. The gendarmes asked the strikers to disperse and go back to their homes, saying their worries would be looked into by the appropriate authorities.
Addressing the mod, Chief Njombe NJoke observed that the CPDM party is a peaceful and united party but some people are doing every thing to destroy the unity and peace that President Paul Biya is working tirelessly to forge within the ranks of the party. Chief Njombe urged the militants to move back to Bongo square where they would be addressed by the mayor.
Whilst at Bongo square, the mayor told the militants that his list was rejected by the local organizing committee on grounds that it was deposited late. Ekema however assured his anxious partisans that he has called the central committee in Yaounde and explained that he actually submitted his list and that he made sure a bailiff was present to take note of the submission. Ekema assured his partisans that the Central Committee has promised to call the head of the local committee, Mr. Kontchou and instruct him to reinstate the list.
But Ekema at once asked his supporters to be vigilant and to wait until evening, saying that if by that time no news comes from Yaounde then the militants should go out and make sure no elections take place in Fako III. Ekema urged his partisans to disrupt any election in their neighbourhood if ever his list was not reinstated. He expressed surprise that despite being his deputy at the council, Mrs. Ojongnkpot who was also a member of the local committee could not help to get his list accepted.
It was no surprise therefore that on the 18 of November 2015 when the voting in Fako III took place, there was destruction of ballot boxes in some polling stations notably Wokoko, Tole and survey School. It took the intervention of gendarmes to get the elections to go on successfully in these areas.
In the end Mafany Namanga and Hanah Etonde Mbua caried the day unchallenged for CPDM and WCPDM respectively, while Njie Frankline Njie hand Mbua Isaac had to battle for YCPDM.
