Nkum Council Adopts 2016 Budget

Councilors of the Nkum council sitting in an ordinary council session on Friday Nov. 13, 2015 at the Nkum Council Hall Tatum, adopted the sum of FCFA 645,840,320 in income and expenditure as budget for the 2016 fiscal year.
    Taking into consideration the Council’s desire to develop the municipality, a whopping FCFA 280.500.000 which is above 43% of the budget and which exceeds the minimum percentage required by law reserved for investment was channeled to investment projects.
    The budget also reflected and assimilated the recent Presidential Decree which placed Mayors and their Deputies on a monthly salary and some allowances as well as allowances of councilors.
    Addressing the councilors, the Mayor of Nkum Council, Suila Aruna described the new status of Mayors, their deputies and councilors as a “game changer” that warrants performance noting that they might “miss the political train” if the results are not forthcoming.
    “By every indication, the masses shall rightly or wrongly expect part of the fallout from this Presidential Decision to manifest in the improvement of their socio-economic well-being. Such expectations to by view are not out of place because our financial empowerment should logically manifest in our greater contribution towards the improvement of the lots of our friends, neighbors and our community as the need arises” he noted.

    He called on councilors to keep away confrontations, intrigues, bad faith, greed and all other forms of negative practices in their interaction within and without the council so as to pave the way for greater realization of their development plans.
Mayor Suila Aruna saluted the exemplary collaboration of the SDO for Bui and the eight key ministerial departments in the decentralization process.
    In his concluding statement, the 1st Assistant SDO for Bui, Dr. Mohammadou lauded councilors for their sense of maturity in voting a realistic budget. He also called on councilors to work hard to ensure that council revenue is increased to meet the present day challenges.
    Talking to journalists after the session, the mayor of Nkum said that his council has drawn up an investment plan for 2016 and with priority projects being the completion of the belated Tatum water project, construction of Buh Integrated Health Centre, maintenance of Takija-Kuvlu road, construction of VIP toilets and a well at the Tatum market.
    He also cited the rehabilitation of rural road Dzeng-Kifem-Ndzevru-Tatum, construction of a slaughter slab in Taum, Supply of 195 benches to schools, Construction of two classrooms each at GS Buh, GS Kishong, GS Sahnyar, GS Dzeng, GS Mbamsong, GNS Kifem and GNS Wooh Mbam and lobby for the creation of a Govt Sub Divisional Hospital in Tatum amongst others.
