Issa Tchiroma, Minister of Communication |
The Minister of Communication has urged Cameroonian
journalists to ensure respect for ethics and deontology. Issa Tchiroma made the
call in his remarks at a ceremony to receive New Year wishes from his collaborators
on 26 January 2018, at the esplanade of the MINCOM building in Yaoundé.
Issa
Tchiroma underscored the importance for journalists to respect ethics mostly
during conflict periods like the one Cameroon is presently going through.
“There
is the need for journalists to be more professional, promoter peace and above
all work towards nation building,” the MINCOM said.
He used
the occasion to announce projects for 2018 including the imminent holding of
the annual conference of central and external services of the MINCOM; the
creation of a special communication watchdog to look into media issues; setting
up of a special fund for the support of media enterprises etc.
Thiroma
said 2018 will be a charged year for the MINCOM because of the holding of
various elections and the preparation towards the hosting of African Cup of
Nations (CAN).
He
hailed the press for the commendable job she is doing. But he also frowned at
junk journalism practiced by some news organs.
The
ceremony saw the presence of representatives of both public and private media,
trade unions, media associations and staff of the ministry.
