Menchum High Court Judge Kidnapped
The President of the High Court of Menchum, Justice Tahle
Mukete Itoe, has been kidnapped by yet unidentified persons, reports said
Wednesday.
The
senior judge who doubles as President of the Wum Court of First Instance was
kidnapped late on Tuesday evening, 21 August 2018, as he was returning to Wum
from Bamenda, the reports said further.
Justice
Tahle Mukete who had boarded a passenger bus for the fateful trip, was whisked
to an unknown destination where he is kept incommunicado.
Neither
the Ambazonia fighters nor any other group has claimed responsibility for the
kidnap, which has been variously condemned by judiciary family, with even
pro-separatist lawyers and judges also bitter about the “stupid act”.
Justice
Tahle Mukete was formerly the President of the Fundong High Court. His capture
comes barely weeks after his deputy at the Menchum High Court, Justice Adamu
Linus, narrowly escaped a kidnap attempt also along the same Bamenda-Wum road.
His car windshield was shattered by the Amba boys.
It
should be recalled that in April this year, retired Vice President of the SW
Appeals Court, Justice Martin Mbeng, was kidnapped in his native Ewelle
village. He was only freed three days later upon the payment of a huge ransom.
Justice Martin Mbeng has since elected residence in the USA.
