Answering questions from curious journalists as to the objectives of Afrima, Ewane explained that Afrima is a multi-national project conceived by a group of persons from different countries of Africa “to foster peace and unity in Africa through the instrumentality of music by regularly gathering all lovers of African music and more, particularly the artistes, to produce music that is appreciated by a global audience.”
He said the initiators of the project are people who want to use their money and knowhow to harness Africa’s music and culture for Africa’s development.
“Afrima plans to set up modern state-of-the-art production studios in major cities in Africa to record and produce the works of the most talented African artistes,” Ewane said, promising that though Afrima’s headquarters is in Lagos, Nigeria, he would convince the other partners to consider installing one of the production studios in Cameroon, to help salvage Cameroonian music which is taken a nose-dive into the doldrums in the past several decades.
But apart from producing the works of artistes, Afrima will also reward excellence, and this would be done either annually or biennially. The Awards ceremony would move from one country to the other.
“Our objective is not just to make money but to valorize African music and make it known all over the world”, Ewane said, noting that Afrima has already secured the endorsement and support of the African Union.
“We paid a visit to the AU headquarters in Addis Ababa and presented the idea to the Scribe, who immediately endorsed it and promised the organization’s total support.”
Meanwhile, a stakeholders’ conference has been billed for tomorrow 15 April 2014, in Lagos Nigeria.
