The remains of an 18 year old boy identified as Ngu Autekus Mbuma has been found in a river in Santa, six days after the boy was suspected to have drown after heavy rains in that community. According to Ngu Andrew, father of the deceased, his son on Friday April, 4, 2014 went to the farm alone in the Achuu neighborhood after school to harvest mushrooms. Unfortunately for him, heavy rains caught up with him while he was still in the farm.
It is suspected that on his way back home and on trying to cross the river that has no bridge but stepping stones, he slipped, fell and was carried by the strong currents of the river.
That same Friday night, Mr Ngu Andrew reported the loss of his son to the forces of law and order who immediately engaged a search. The following day, Saturday, April 5, 2014, the Divisional Officer of Santa Diyem Lawrence mobilized more forces of law and order and the population to continue a mass search for the missing boy.
After searching for five days to no avail, it was only on the early hours of Wednesday April 9, that the corpse of Ngu Mbuma was found in the river. It was then taken by the forces of the Army Rescue Brigade and buried instantly along the banks of the river that serves as a boundary between the North West and the west regions in the presence of grieving family members.
Ngu Mbuma, it should be noted is a form five student at Santa Grammer School and was supposed to sit in for the General Certificate of Education exams in June 2014.
