Biya turned 84 on Saturday
President Paul Biya turned 84 on Saturday.
He was born on 13 February 1933 in M’vomeka, near Sangmelima in the South
region, to Mvondo Assam (a Catechist) and Brenda AnastasieEyenga (a house
wife).
Paul
Biya was however, not present at the Conference Centre in Yaounde, on Saturday,
when thousands of youths gathered there to celebrate his birthday. He and his
wife Chantal had travelled to his village M’vomeka perhaps to spend the day in
a more confined environment with friends and family.
But
the SG of the presidency, Ferdinand NgohNgoh, who presided over the festivities
at Palais de Congres told the youths he had been sent by the president to
commune with them also transmit his sincere appreciation to them for the kind
words that they addressed to his person and his family.
In
their birthday message to Biya the youths also called on him to consider being
a candidate in the next presidential election.
The
Birthday event at the Palais de Congres was witnessed by some government
officials and mostly collaborators of the president.
Commentators
have noted that the years have been very kind to Paul Biya; at 84 he can still
stand firmly on his feet, he also reads with ease and his faculties are quite
intact.
