Chief Ekong William Sakwe of Mbonge council

The mayor of Mbonge council, chief of Big Nganjo and vice president of the south west chiefs conference, Chief Ekong William Sakwe, who died on January 15 at the Buea regional hospital has been laid to rest in his native of Big Nganjo where he reign as chief for over 18 years. In a traditional funeral ceremony organized on behalf of the fallen mayor at the MbongeMaromba grandstand, speaker after speaker all took time to describe the late mayor as a courageous and a fearless fighter who took the commitment to bring the biggest sub division to the lime light in his short stay on earth.
                Representing the minister of territorial administration the senior divisional officer for Meme described late mayor Ekong as one who had formed a formidable team with the Meme administration ready for development. He said the chief cum mayor of Mbonge was not just assiduous but mastered the terrain and had respect for hierarchy.
                The Meme boss warned that peace should continue to reign even after a new mayor will take over the council in the days ahead and equally called for calm in Big Nganjo where he served as chief.
                On his part, Senator Andrew OtteMofa describes the fallen mayor as a hero who bows out with dignity. He recounts his over 42 years old relationship he had with the late mayor as cordial, from primary through secondary school. He said Ekong was always out spoken and was ready to die for a course he thought was genuine no matter the consequences.
                From the wife through the daughter and the village reagent of Big Nganjo all took out time to explain the life of a man the division will never have again.

                Much earlier, the collage of clergy who were in charge of the funeral service described the fallen mayor as one who was able to impact the lives of so many people during his very short stay on earth.
                In his homily, Rev Bisong Johnson drew his inspiration from the book of Job, he called on the thousands of mourners present not to cry for the departed mayor but to examine their lives here on earth and be a blessing to others. The funeral service which seemed more like a reconciliation meeting brought together internal and external elites of Mbonge sub division, mayors, MPs, traditional rulers and the CPDM central committee represented by Senator Charles MbellaMoki amongst others.
Born in some 53 years ago in Big Nganjo to late  Mr and MrsNagondaEkong, after his primary education in Big Nganjo, the then young Ekong’s quest for knowledge took him to the then PSS now PHS Kumba were he obtained the GCE ordinary level and later to CCAS Kumba and PYC Kumba were he obtained the GCE advance level. He later proceeded to the government Bilingual teachers training collage Kumba GBTTTC were he obtained a teachers grade one certificate.He also took a Bachelors of Arts degree from UB and became the pedagogic inspector of Basic Education meme a post he held before his sudden death.
                Chief Ekong William Sakwe was pioneer section president for the CPDM in meme II Mbonge in 2002 and has since then held position within the party like charge’ de mission, councilor of Mbonge councilor before becoming the mayor in October 2013. A former elder of the Presbyterian Church in Cameroon chief Ekong became chief in his village Big Nganjo in 1997 after succeeding his uncle.
