10th batch of Special Needs Teacher
Training College graduate

Graduating students of the 1st batch of
trainees of the Inclusive Special Education Teacher Training College, Bamenda,
with the acronym CISETTEP, have were last week handed their end of course certificates.
This was during a graduation ceremony presided over by a representative of the
NW governor’s office.
Placed under the theme: “Cameroon Inclusive
Special Education Teacher Improvement Programme,” the CISETTEP graduation
coincided with that of the 10th batch of the Special Needs Teacher Training
Institute, ITCIG-SENTI, Bamenda that is managed by the same management board.
Holding
at the Bamenda Congress Hall, the dual ceremony guided by the theme:
‘partnering with the government in the professional training and development of
general and inclusive Special Education human resource to meet the needs of
Inclusive Education in Cameroon’, was chaired by the chief of economic, social
and cultural affairs in the Northwest governor’s office, Nji Joseph.
Speaking
on the occasion, the students’ delegates from both institutions, ApiaseAtemba
and BertilaKonyuy from SENTI and CISETTEP respectively, praised the New Deal
Government for caring about the plight of the socially less privileged by
providing them the opportunity to exploit their abilities.
The
principal of CISETTEP, Emmanuel Acheknew, lauded government’s efforts in
creating awareness and facilitating the implementation of inclusive Education
in Cameroon. He also hailed the propitious legal and operational framework
set-up for the full implementation and realization of the scheme.
An
academic discourse on the topic, ‘the role of stakeholders in the
implementation of inclusive education in Cameroon’, presented by four resource
persons vizNjeatihDrusilia, Chick Sama, Manju Irene and AjeagahRosea won the
applause of the crowd and laid bare the importance of inclusive education.
Presenting
the vision of the institutions and explaining why the adventure into
a-little-known sector, the proprietress of the schools, Eugenia Urwick and the
rector, Prof Einstein Anyi, noted that it was an answer to a need. They called
on the stakeholders to add value to the vision and make the programme reachable
by all and sundry.
The
governor’s representative, Nji Joseph, hailed the founders of the school,
noting that the graduates from the school are making a wonderful impact in
society.
“With your institution, the future of
inclusive education is bright in Cameroon,” he said, urging the management of
the school to move on slowly but surely.
