Cameroon beat Gambia 2-0 in Limbe
Indomitable Lions celebrating their victory
Two goals from Benjamin Moukandjo and TokoEkambi, in the first and second halves respectively, were enough to give the Indomitable Lions victory over their Gambian counterparts, in Limbe, on Saturday.
The match counted for the 6th and last playing day in the qualifiers for the 2017 CAN billed for Gabon.
Moukandjo opened the scoring for Cameroon after he transformed a penalty in the 24th minute of the first half. The referee granted the penalty after fleet-footed and enterprising TokoEkambi was pulled down by a Gambian defender insider the box.
A header from Cameroon’s central defender minutes later beat the Gambian goalie but sailed wide.
Intermittent raids by the Cameroonians in the dusk of the first half did not yield the desired fruits.
So, at half time the score margin remained at Cameroon 1-0 Gambia.
The 2nd half saw a more determined and enthusiastic Gambian side. But their sporadic incursions into the lions’ defense area were contained by a level-headed, well positioned defense line and a steady and confident lions’ goalkeeper.

Gaining in confidence in the course of the match, the young lions controlled play for most of the half, holding the Gambians in their own half of the field. Their sustained paid off in the 63rd minute, when TokoEkambi headed home a superb OyongoBitolo cross from the left flank.
Thus, at full time the damage was settled at 2 goals for Cameroon and no goal for Gambia.
With the victory therefore, Cameroon have confirmed their supremacy in group F of the qualifying rounds with 14 points as against 7 points for runners-up, Gambia.
The lions meet Gabon for a FIFA friendly on Tuesday night, still in Limbe.
