Hadj 2016:
208 pilgrims leave Douala for Saudi Arabia
It was exactly 9:30pm Friday when
Camair-co’s Boeing 767-300 plane (Le Dja) with 208 pilgrims aboard finally left
Douala for Saudi Arabia. Thus after the disappointment on Thursday, the
pilgrims essentially from the East and Adamoua regions were now sure to join
their brothers in Mohamed’s country.
The
Governor of the Littoral region, Samuel DieudonnéIvahaDiboua and his close
collaborators witnessed the departure.
The
excitement of the pilgrims was discernible ahead of their departure, as they
could barely allow Camair-co agents to control their bag and baggage ahead of
the departure. The women were the first to go to through the control
procedures.
The
last checks were conducted aboard the plane that had earlier in the afternoon
undergone a pre-test flight to ascertain its safety.
By
9pm all the passengers were on board, warranting the governor who had been
waiting in one of the halls of the Douala International Airport to climb on
board and bid the pilgrims farewell and a happy stay in Saudi Arabia.
Samuel
DieudonnéIvahaDiboua moved from one end of the plane to the other greeting the
pilgrims one by one and thanking them for holding their patience.

Four people were killed in two road
accidents on Saturday 26 August 2016, in Yaounde.
OmgbaEssomba and Baba Zacharie lost their
lives in the first accident that occurred around the Borne douze, Odza quarters
here.
According
to reports from the Odza Gendarmerie Brigade, the accident happened at about
1.15pm, when the motor bike bearing OmbgaEssomba, 27 and his in-law, Baba
Zacharie, 30, lost control and ran into an on-coming pick-up vehicle.
OmbgaEssomba died on the spot, while Baba Zacharie died in the hospital minutes
later.
Their
corpses were taken to the Yaounde military hospital morgue at Ekounou here.
Meanwhile,
the vehicle owner and her driver were arraigned for questioning.
The
second accident occurred at the Eldorado Nkomoneighbourhood, near the home of
the late Indomitable Lions midfielder, Marc Vivien Foe. Eyewitness reports said
a Bertoua-bound truck transporting a loaded container lost control and crashed
into the perimeter fence of Foe’s compound.
The
crumbling wall of the fence killed two friends, TallaEngelbert, 45, and Kogne
Denis, who were strolling near to the accident site. It also smashed a car and
a motor bike that were parked near the fence.
It
was not immediately known what caused the truck to run off its track. But
speculations were that it might have developed a breaks failure or a faulty
steering wheel.
However, fearing for his life, the driver
of the truck fled the vicinity and took refuge at the Nkoabang police station.
