Experts from Spain will be carrying out endoscopic surgeries at the St Elizabeth Catholic General Hospital Shisong from September 17 to 23 2016 at subsidized costs.
This is contained in a press release from the hospital signed by its Director, Sister Kinyuy Mary Aldrine.
According to the release, from August 17 till September 10, 2016, “screening will be done for men aged 50 years and above”
To enable this category of people to do their screening, the institution has reduced the prices of Pelvic Ultrasound from FCFA 6000 to FCFA 4000 and that of Prostrate Specific Antigen (PSA) test from FCFA 11.600 to FCFA 6.600.
Those who shall be recommended for surgery after screening shall benefit from a reduction in the price of a normal surgery and treatment.
“Such clients going for surgery shall only pay a lump sum of FCFA 150000 instead of paying the average cost of FCFA 350000 to benefit from a complete treatment package” the release reads.
This medical campaign undertaken by the hospital is one of the many they have carried out over the years aimed at bringing health closer to the people at affordable cost.

It is worth noting that the Saint Elizabeth Catholic General Hospital Shisong, is one the main health facilities in the North West Region of Cameroon under the operation of the Tertiary Sisters of Saint Francis (TSSF) Shisong.
The hospital was established in 1936 as a Maternity by the first Tertiary Sisters of Saint Francis from from South Tyrol, Brixen (Italy), in response to infant and maternal mortality at birth that were so common at the time.
The Sisters were more sensitive to maternity services. The first maternity of Shisong Hospital was a thatched building while cartoons were used for babies’ cots. Over the years, the hospital has undergone some modifications to become a dependable, 24 hours health service delivery point for clients within the North West Region and beyond and its services have become diverse and more specialized.
The Catholic General Hospital has continued to improve its services by the addition of another new department, namely, the Cardiac Centre. The Cardiac Centre, which is the first such institution not only in Cameroon but also in this sub-region of Africa.
It is equipped with ultra modern technologies and prepared to offer a wide range of cardiology services including diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease and electrophysiology
