AGENLA Academy Graduates 40 Mining &
Industrial Maintenance Engineers
Official representatives of at least six
government ministries were joined by the Canadian High Commissioner to Cameroon
on Friday, 2 December 2016 to witness the ‘Solemn Ceremony for the Award of
Diplomas and Professional Bachelor’s Degrees to the 2016 Graduates of Agenla
Academy University,’ holding at the main campus of the institution situated in
Nkoabang, Yaounde.
Addressing
the guests and especially the at least 40 happy laureates of the day, the
representative of the Minister of Higher Education noted that at a time when
the government is still grappling with the professionalization of higher
education in the country, Agenla Academy has come just in time to not only lend
a hand to government, but also set the pace and good example for others to
emulate.
Hailing
the authorities of Agenla Academy for initiating and putting paid to a
wonderful and laudable project, the representative of the MINESUP noted with
unconcealed hope and pride that given the professional training offered at the
school, the 2016 graduates of Agenla Academy will easily gain employment in the
very competitive job market.
For
his part, the Canadian High Commissioner said the Agenla Academy project
deserves not only praise but also committed support from the authorities and
the wider public because it is a project that seeks to build and harness human
capital.
He
noted that the future of Cameroon just like that of all other countries depends
on the quality of the human capital they have, further noting that the kind of
training and capacity building that schools like Agenla Academy offer to their
students will determine the outcome of President Biya’s 2035 emergence vision.
The
Canadian High Commissioner used the occasion to pledge his government’s full
endorsement and support for the Agenla Academy project.
As for the legal representative of the
proprietors of the Academy, Barrister Mrs. Enow nee Lamango, the Agenla Academy
project is the realization of a dream by former Higher Education Minister and
former Minister, Assistant Secretary General at the Presidency, Professor Peter
AgborTabi, who unfortunately passed on in April 2016.
Barrister
EnowLamango therefore called for the observation of a minute of silence in
honour of the departed professor and father of the Agenla Academy project.
She
thanked her guests for the honour they have demonstrated by honouring the
invitation that was addressed to them at very short notice.
Other
speakers included the representative of the graduating class and the
coordinator of the Agenla Academy incubator and business up-starts laboratory.
Reacting
after receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering, MbeutchaAbath
Cedric could not conceal his joy. He said apart from the fact that he is fully
equipped for the job market, he has also been well prepared for
self-employment.
“Though
I specialized in mining, I also took courses in project planning and
management. This has enabled me to already mount projects in different domains
apart from mining. In fact I look forward to becoming an accomplished mining
entrepreneur; I think I have what it takes,” Cedric boasted.
Another
laureate, Linda SorellaTchakoua expressed similar feelings like her course
mate. But she said after obtaining her professional degree she will now enter
the job market and hopefully pick a job, why not?
A
high point of the ceremony was the cutting of the symbolic ribbon and the
unveiling of the memorial plaque for the sumptuous and imposing main building
of Agenla Academy. This was jointly done by the representatives of the
stakeholder ministries notably MINREX, MINESUP, MINMIDT, MINPMESA and MINFOPRA.
Performances
by local artistes and cultural displays added garnish to the superbly organized
and hugely attended ceremony.
