After serious pressure mounted on the government and administrators in the Southwest region, the divisional officer of Buea, KouamWokam Paul has in a communique signed early this December revealed that the confiscated robes and wigs of common law lawyers will be restituted. According to the communique, the DO of Buea is calling on all common law lawyers whose wigs and robes were seized by security forces on 10 November 2016 within the Buea municipality to pass by his office from December 14 for identification and collection of the said wigs and gowns.

Recall that striking common law lawyers were brutally beaten and molested by the forces of law and order as they took to the streets in a peaceful protest to demand for their rights to be respected. Police officers chased the lawyers all over the town of Buea, beating them up and confiscating their wigs and robes. The police even broke into the offices of some lawyers holding the owners hostage for hours before taking their gowns and wigs away.
Despite the restitution of their robes and wigs, the common law lawyers have vowed to continue with their indefinite sit in strike until government provides answers to their demands.
It should be noted that the government has finally secured the translated version of the OHADA law, which was one of the requests of the lawyers.
