Okadamen take to the streets in Kumba
Commercial Motorcycle riders in Kumba, Wednesday 7th 2016 stormed the Kumba central police station to obtain the release of one of theirs detained by the police for participating in the Monday 5th December commercial motorcycle riders in support of the ongoing Anglophone Teachers and Common Law Lawyers strike.
The man James Eyong was picked by the police in the initial start of the okadamen protest action at Town Green.  It was not clear why, the said James Eyong was the only person picked up and later detained by the police.  Some person suggest that he was singled because he was gulping down a bottle of beer and that the police perceived that he could overact out of the influence of alcohol.
Whatever the reason advanced, after spending three days in the police cell, James Eyong was released on Wednesday 7th December as okadamen were hatching plans to organize about 300 of them to storm the police station to demand for his release.

As the news quickly filtered into the ears of the police the said James was quickly bundled out to pre-empt the alleged raid by the okadamen.
Following his release he thanked his fellow okadamen who necessitated his premature release.  Questioned whether he was tortured while in detention he said he was never tortured.
He also mentioned during his stay in detention the police never interrogated but added that if they ever did he could have informed the police that he was participating in the teachers and lawyers strike because the cause the duo are fighting for embraces all Anglophones.
The Kumba police cell, once a torture chamber is now a place where detainees are treated with a human face thanks to the central police commissioner NjumeNjikang Wilson.
