Gabon AFCON 2017:

Cameroon 1-1 Burkina Faso
The Indomitable Lions have drawn 1-1 with the Stallions of Burkina Faso in their opening game of the 2017 AFCON in Gabon.
Playing with experienced players like Charles Kabore and Bakary Kone, the Stallions entered the game with vigour, mounting pressure on the Lions and were denied a goal scored from the off-side position. A great save by goalkeeper Ondoa prevented the Lions from conceding an early goal during the first half.
The young but enterprising Lions entered the game timidly with strikers Clinton Njie, Zoa and Bassogo searching in vain to hit the target.
The Lions exhibited a good inter-positional play in the half with AFCON greenhorns Ngandeu Ngadjui and Jacques Zoua upfront and Clinton Njie from the left flank raiding the Stallions goal area on several occasions.

Captain Benjamin Moukandjo took his responsibility and sent a free kick passed goalkeeper Kouakou Koffi after Jacque Zoa was brought down some 20 meters away from the Stallions’ post. The Lions thus ended the half with a 1-0 advantage.
In the second half the Lions mounted pressure, loosing many scoring chances. Njie Clinton squandered a golden opportunity when he failed to transform the rebound from Jacques Zoua’s thunderbolt.
Burkina Faso’s resistance paid-off in the 80th minute when Issoufou Dayo headed home a spot kick after Mabouka played hard on a Stallion.
