Kumba teachers refuse to be bullied by DO

By Johnson Batuo in Kumba
The Divisional Officer for Kumba II, Tsezode Pierre Monday 19 December 2016 failed in his attempt to bully teachers in his subdivision to resume classes, The Median learned.
We gathered that the DO’s meeting with head teachers of primary and nursery schools, principals and proprietors of public and private colleges was at the behest of the Prime Minister Philemon Yang.
But instead of addressing the grievances of the teachers, Tsezode from the Western Region, resorted to threats and intimidation.  The teachers, we learnt, told the DO that it was the Teachers Union that called the strike and that only the union can call off the strike.
The DO’s Monday meeting came when all the schools in Kumba and most parts of Meme division were already on Christmas vacation.
Because of the looming insecurity, schools authorities had invited parents to come and take their children home.

The teachers regretted that instead of dialoguing with them the Government is resorting to intimidation and other primitive methods to coerce them to resume classes.
A principal of a public institution who attended the Monday meeting told this reporter that they have soliciting other professional groups to join the teachers and lawyers strike.

Meanwhile, we gathered that some CPDM militants suspected of supporting the Anglophone struggle are reportedly being called up and interrogated by the special branch police.
