DO shuns bribe, threats, installs Kombone Chief
By Doh Bertrand Nua in Kumba
DO congratulates newly installed chief Sakwe II of Kombone Town
In what could be seen as a courageous move to forestall violence and bring an end to a long running chieftaincy crisis, the Divisional officer for Mbonge, Sombe Simon has installed Sakwe Eric Dosa as chief of Kombone town village, resisting corruption attempts and defying death threats from a segment of the population.
Installing the new chief on 22 April 2017, Sombe Simon hailed the members of the Kombone village traditional council for helping the administration in choosing the right candidate for the throne. He noted that the installation of the new chief marks the end of the chieftaincy crisis that has since 2014 divided the villagers into separate camps led by the contenders to the throne.
Sombe Simon noted that over time Mbonge Sub-Division has been replete with chieftaincy crisis and land disputes, but that being the level-headed and straight-forward administrator that he is, he has stood the test of time and has resisted all corruption attempts by people who only want their selfish interest to reign supreme over the general interest of the entire community. He promised to continue to ensure that the right thing is done whenever and wherever necessary, no matter the time it takes or whose Ox is gored in the process of ensuring legality and legitimacy.
“Wherever I pass troubles cannot trespass because I am a trouble-shooter myself,” boosted DO Sombe Simon, noting that the installation ceremony on 22 April 2017 also marks his fourth anniversary as the DO for Mbonge as per his appointment on 22 April 2013.
Condemning manipulation attempts by some kingmakers who, after collecting bribes from some contestants overnight, tried to destabilize the village by choosing the wrong candidate, Sombe revealed that he had received firm instructions from the SDO never to install any contestant who was not the rightful and legitimate choice of the villagers.

The DO however urged the new chief, Sakwe II, to ensure unity amongst the divided factions in the village as well as use his wisdom to settle issues amongst his subjects. DO Sombe exhorted the new chief to shun favoritism in the exercise of his duties as well as ensure the development of the village?
Also speaking at the massively attended installation ceremony, the President General of the Bakundu Cultural and Development Union, BACDU, Chief Justice Benjamin Itoe, noted that the installation ceremony has finally laid to rest the crisis and cold war in the village.
“This shows that the people of Kombone Town village have refused to be manipulated by the forces of “darkness”, the majority of whom are non-indigenes of the village,” Chief Justice Itoe enthused, calling for forgiveness, oneness, unity and love for one another to reign amongst the villagers of Kombone.
Chief Sakwe Eric Dosa (HRH Sakwe II) replaces his late father, Sakwe Daniel Modimi who joined the ancestors on 8 November 2013. Taking the baton of command, Chief Sakwe immediately promised to unite the villagers and ensure that peace is restored within the shortest possible time.
Born in Kombone Town Village in 1987, HRH Sakwe II attended successively GS Kombone Town, GHS Kombone and CCAS Kumba. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in law and a Masters in International Trade and Investment from the University of Dschang. He is currently a 2nd Cycle student at the Higher Technical Teachers Training College, HTTTC, Kumba and is the president of Youth Parliamentarian from Meme Division.
