Limbe City Council Adopts Ambitious FCFA 10bn Budget
-West Bank Project, AFCON Hosting Prioritized

The Limbe Left Bank Maritime Development Project is
gradually but surely taking shape as the Minister Delegate of MINEPAT is
expected in days ahead for the project's take-off and realization. A whooping
sum of 150 Million Francs CFA shall be used to study projects especially to
improve on the data bank of projects, finalise the Environmental Impact
Assessment and technical Feasibility studies for the Down Beach project"
This
was disclosed by the Government Delegate to the Limbe City Council, Andrew
Motanga Monjimba, on Friday December 7 during the second ordinary session of
the city council for the year 2018 dedicated to the examination and adoption of
the budget for the 2019 financial year.
Addressing
grand councillors at the LCC conference hall, the GD said the realisation of
the 60 billion worth Limbe West Bank Project which will comprise the building
of a 2000-seat multi-purpose conference hall, a shopping centre, a museum,
sporting facilities amongst others will create many jobs and business
opportunities.
Presenting
the council’s budget for 2019, the GD said the draft budget of LCC for 2019
financial year is balanced in revenue and expenditure at the sum of Nine
Billion Seven Hundred and Fifty Million Francs CFA (9,750,000,000FCFA). Out of
this, the recurrent expenditure is estimated at FCFA 4.621.000.0000
representing 47.40% while FCFA 5.128.000.000 representing 52.60% is earmarked
for investment.
Priority
investment projects will include land acquisition for the Down Beach project,
construction of an ultra modern market, works and development, continuation of
partnership with HYSACAM amongst other projects contained in the LCC 2019
Action Plan.
The GD
stated that the budget will be gotten from government support and taxes
collection. He therefore called on the population to corporate with the council
in the process so that the municipality keeps its development momentum.
To the
GD, their Action Plan for 2019 just like in preceding years shows their
unreserved commitment in transforming the municipality despite some challenges.
"Most of the items in the 2019 Action plan have been carried over from
2018 and most of the on-going projects will be terminated in 2019," the GD
said.
He
added that most of the projects were part of the council's plan to make the
muncipality ready for the 2019 AFCON. He equally talk of the Ongoing Anglophone
Crisis which to him is hindering development and destroying lives. He urged
those who have taken up arms to drop them and give peace a chance.
On his
part, the SDO for Fako Engamba Emmanuel Ledoux congrated the senior councilors
for a fruitful session and urged them to get to work immediately so as to
achieve their goals for 2019. He said the councilors need to be creative in
raising money for the municipality because the present situation in the
Anglophone regions makes revenue collection difficult due to financial
constraints. He called on the council to makes sure project that have to do
with AFCON are ready on the deal day and also make sure up coming local
elections goes on hitch free. The SDO equally applauded the efforts by the
population to shun act of violence in the town and pleeaded with them to remain
united so as to overcome the insecurity challenges.
After
debate of deliberations presented, the budget was unanimously adopted by the
Councilors and several resolutions taken amongst which is the implementation of
an insurance policy for senior councilors. A motion of support was equally
addressed to the head of state president Paul Biya for his good stewardship.
Andrew
Motanga thanked the councilors, LCC partners, stakeholders, business men and
women who stood by the council in their onerous journey of transforming the
municipality. He equally thanked the population for not engaging in violence
and urged them to continue being safe and patriotic by not respecting the calls
of Ghost Town.
