The General Manager of the Cameroon Airline Company,
Camair-Co, Ernest Dikoum, has been named Chairman of the General Assembly of
the African Airlines Associations, AFRAA.
He
picked up the mandate last Tuesday in Rabat, Morocco, during the organisation’s
50th general assembly meeting.
His
mandate which has been described as a diplomatic victory for Cameroon will last
one year, The Median learnt.
In an
address during the occasion, the boss of Cameroon’s national carrier, called on
aviation stakeholders to pull efforts for an effective respond to the
industry's constant challenges.
It was
also decided during the Rabat meeting that Cameroon will play host to the next
conclave of the Association in November 2019.
“This is umpteenth international victory for Cameroon, which
will see the participation of aviation players and more than 50 African
airlines. It is the clear proof that our country enjoys great credibility,” Dikoum
said.
During
the meeting, the Ethiopian Airlines was conferred the title of 2018 Best
Airlines in Africa for the 7th year in a row.
The
award, the African Airlines Association said was given to Ethiopian Airlines in
recognition of its exceptional financial performance.

CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, Tewolde GebreMariam, after receiving the award said,
“…In the last seven years we have been coming to AFRAA AGA and receiving this
continental high-profile award every single year. We sincerely thank AFRAA and
our sister African Airlines for the award. The award underscores the continuous
efforts and hard work of Ethiopian employees who are highly committed for the
extra ordinary success of our airline”.
“Most of all, we all need to synergize our strengths to
realize the vision of creating a single and unified African Air Transport
market,” he added.

airlines, promote and protect their common interests”
The
Association seeks to facilitate the establishment of industry best practices in
safety and security, to provide a platform for consensus building among member
carriers, facilitate joint projects between member airlines aimed at reducing
their costs and increasing their revenues, actively contribute in human capital
development as well as interact with the regulatory bodies to support and
protect the common interests of all African airlines.
The
Association also provide forums for members and industry partners to enhance
their knowledge base and enhance mutual cooperation as well as facilitate the
development of environmental policies in keeping with industry best practices.
