New SW FECAFOOT President, Ndive Molungu |
The SW regional branch of Cameroon Football Federation,
FECAFOOT, now has a new president. The promoter of Victoria United (Opopo),
Limbe, Thomas Ndive Molungu was elected on 27 November, during an elective
General Assembly held at the South West Governor’s office. Molungu defeated
Essa Pius who promotes Continental FA. He takes over from Senator Mbella Moki
Charles who has been at the helm since 2009.
Molungu
takes over management of local football at a time when the quality of the game
is experiencing a nose dive and when the fans are no longer coming to the
stadia to watch football. The new president thus has an uphill task restoring
not only the once high level of football in the SW but also the interest that
the populations used to have in the game at local level, when they came in
their numbers to stadia in Buea, Limbe, Kumba etc on Sundays to watch good
football.
According to the president,
various projects will be implemented to ensure development of football in the
region.
“There is going to be the reduction of the number of clubs
taking part in the regional championship….Many clubs find it difficult to
sustain themselves for a whole season. We will diagnose the problems and see
how we can together solve them.”
Others members of the SW Bureau include Pascal Manga as 1st
Vice president and Nouk Protus Bilap as 2nd Vice president.
Nouck
Protus who is the promoter of Little Foot Academy of Limbe is a household name
in SW football circles. He has run for the office of SW Fecafoot president
several times.
Speaking
to the press, Nouk Protus said “SW football is presently in the forest, but it
will be pulled out sooner than later.”
He says
the new exco will make management of football to be participative by getting
the grassroots populations involved.
“We are
going to make it as crowd pulling as possible. SW football has to be
entertaining as to bring back the crowds to the stadia; it has to bring people
together,” Nouk hopes.
The
election was supervised by veteran sports journalist, Njomo Kevin, who
represented the Normalization Committee.
Jomo
hailed the smooth election process, saying it is victory to football.
“SW
Fecafoot elections have never been this calm in decades. There was an
atmosphere of camaraderie. I hope the new management will take football in the
SW to a higher level. I would be happy if the two teams can work together. My
wish is that football is taking back to the level of the 1980s when it was a
game of commitment, passion and excitement,” Njomo prayed.
According
to the head of the electoral commission, Barrister Ashutantang Tanjong, the
elections were free, fair and transparent.
“We are hoping that these new delegates will bring back
football to a high level in the region. For some time now football has been
limping in the SW. We also hope that those who lost will take it in good
faith,” Tanjong said, adding that “for some 11 years now, the region has not
had a team qualifying from the National Interpools to the Second Division
championship. The last to win a ticket from Division two was Tiko United, even
though Dynamic qualified for League 2 n 2011 thanks to FECAFOOT”.
During
the elective GA, some six delegates were elected to represent the region at the
national level. They include: Nouck Protus, Eteki Charles, Ikome William
Lifange, Kongnso Chrysantus, Joshua Osih and Foinding Calvin.
