Some seventeen [17] new chiefs of services
at the Buea council have been installed on Monday February 13, 2017in a special
ceremony at the council chambers.
These
newly appointees have been called by Mayor Ekema Patrick to take their jobs seriously
and show transparency at their duty posts. “You can make paradise even in your
bedroom;there are a lot of unexploited resources at the disposal of the various
duty posts of the council’’. ‘’So take your post seriously for the envy of
others to want to hold that position you have. People make offices but offices
do not make people’’ Mayor Ekemaadded.
Speaking
to this reporter at the end of the event, Mr. Emmanuel MotombyMbome, 1st Deputy
Mayor, opines that with the prevailing disturbances in town, management deemed
it necessary to reshuffle but not neglecting people. ‘’change is a necessary
ingredient as far as development is concerned. The Buea council has a
challenged as per the budget which is over two billion, so we needed to put
square pecks into square holds to attain the goals of the council. Nobody was
changed because he committed a crime; when someone stays at a particular point
it reduces his ability to work”.He however called on these newly appointed
officials not to relent their efforts in achieving council goals. ’’They should
not admire these positions but work for that position so that management can
maintain them there because of their out puts”:
To
Mr. NtuiHumpreyTanyi, chief of service for Taxation, there are some challenges
to come. “The challenges are enormous particularly with the Land Tax. There are
not enough personnel in that sector. Much of the work is not done in the
office: we have to go to the field and fish out all the landlords who are not
paying these taxes”.
Chaired
by Mayor Ekema Patrick Esunge, the event was attended by Mr. EwumbeMonono
Joseph, Emmanuel MotombyMbome, SG, 1st Deputy Mayor respectively, 2nd, 3rd, 4th
Deputy Mayors, Friends and colleagues ended with a tour of the various duty
post and snapshots.
