SW Governor Okalia Bilai leads sports walk |
The National physical education day has
been celebrated with a call for individuals to embrace physical education as
its role cannot be underestimated. Celebrated last Saturday 18 February 2017,
the three day event brought together a few hundred Buea denizens, Governor of
the SWR, Mr. Bernard Okalia, SG Mr. Clement FonNdikum, Regional delegate of
Communication for the SW, regional delegate of Secondary education, amongst
others.
To
SW Governor Mr. Bernard Okalia sport and physical education is very vital to
ones health and contributes significantly to nation building." We gave to
maintain our body in good health so that we can build our nation. If you are
not in good health, you cannot fully participate in nation building".
" I want to express my sincere gratitude to all those who turnout to
celebrate the day and may they continue to take physical activities at
heart" he added
The
Givernor further called on the population to turnout at mass to welcome the
male national football team who will be in Buea this Friday February 24, 2016
to present the trophy they won in Gabon. "I am calling on all of you to
show your support to the lions who made the country proud by winning the Africa
cup of Nations in Gabon".
On
his part, SG Clement Fonshapem opines that sport is a vital activity to keep
the body in good shape. "After the walk it is time for the various
activities to take place. Am here to take part in table tennis because it is
what I enjoy playing at my age"
Day
two of the national physical education week continued on Sunday February 19,
2017 with sporting activities such as Football, Basketball, Table Tennis,
Volleyball, Wrestling, long Tennis and a host of others. Meantime the
activities rounded up the following day with a round table discussion at the
Governors office.
Starting at 6:30am at the explanade of the
Molyko Stadium where they had close to 30mins of exercising, a few hundred Buea
denizens led by the Governor and some administrative authorities then made the
6km journey passing through some neighbourhoods such as Clerks quarter, Federal
quarter, Bokwaongo junction to the Governors office where a light ambiance welcomed
them. Fruits comprising bananas, watermelon were the order of day at the end of
the walk to make up for lost energy.
