Contractors in the North West region have
pleaded on government to address the “lowest bidder criterion to award
contracts” saying it is cause of the poor execution and abandonment of some
projects in Cameroon.
This
was during the official presentation of the North West Bureau of the National
Order of Cameroon Contractors on Friday March 17, 2017 in Bamenda, in a
ceremony presided over by the Inspector General at the North West Governor’s
Office, Ivo Makoge.
Speaking
at the ceremony, the National President of NACOCAM, Prince Akere said the
association was created to bring order to the public contracts sector in
Cameroon that has been bedeviled by numerous problems.
“The
association was set up firstly to serve as a forum to educate and train its
members on all developments in the public contract sector, promote fairness and
business ethics within members and in the public contracts sector, negotiate
profitable business deals and to advocate for the rights of members” he noted.
He
said the creation of the association will give the contractors a platform to
address ills that have plagued the sector such as the abandonment of projects,
delays in execution and unrealistic bids.
On
his part, the NW Regional President of NACOCAM Fabian NebaNgu said delays in
payments at the level of the Treasury, the non respect of the three months
validity for administrative documents at the level of the National Social
Insurance Fund, the lowest bidder criterion in the award of contracts amongst
others delay the execution and at times abandonment of projects.
Fabian
NebaNgu appealed on government to address these issues and promised on behalf
of his members that they will remove charlatans from their midst.
He
also congratulated the North West Taxation department for making things easy
for them.
The
National Order of Cameroon Contractors is a newly created professional
association made up of Cameroon contractors with representation in the ten
regions of Cameroon.
