Mbonge Sub-division:

Big Nganjo immortalizes Chief Mayor Ekong William
-Senator Otte Andrew Mofa used the occasion to preach love and solidarity, in the wake of the Anglophone uprising.

Senator Andrew OtteMofa who doubles as the Section President of CPDM Meme-II, Mbonge, has called for solidarity and love to reign in Big Nganjo despite the festering Anglophone uprising that has witness the closure of schools and has crippled economic activities in most parts, including the hinterlands, of the Northwest and Southwest regions.
Arguably the most successful and popular son of Big Nganjo, Senator Otte was speaking during the memorial service that he organized in honour of a fallen hero of Big Nganjo, the late Mayor Chief Ekong Williams Samuel, who died on 15 January 2016.
The very dynamic Senator used the occasion of the Memorial service to assure the population that government is doing everything within its powers to ensure the effective return to normalcy in the two aggrieved Anglophone regions by solving the problems advanced by the Common Law Lawyers and Teacher’s Trade Unionists.
Expressing surprise that the strike action has affected all the towns and villages of the NW and SW regions, the Senator opined that “with the gravity of the crisis Cameroon will never be the same again”.
He took the opportunity to contrast those elites who have chosen to play the ostrich in the face of the crisis, saying “only cowards shy away from their own problems”. He expressed regrets that some people have been led by their emotions instead of their brains in the handling of the crisis.
The Memorial service according to Senator Mofa was a way of thanking God and recognizing and acknowledging his will as well as a way of carrying forward with the good works left behind by the late chief Ekong.
The occasion was equally the sack cloth removal in purely traditional fashion, and a way of invoking and appeasing the gods and ancestors of Big Nganjo to confer love, peace, unity and solidarity on the people of Big Nganjo, especially after he (Senator Otte) personally intervened and put an end to the chieftaincy crisis that ensued following the passing of chief Ekong.

Senator Otte could not conceal his joy that the vacuum created by the death of Chief Ekong has finally been filled at all levels- at the council where he was mayor; in Big Nganjo where he was the chief and in CPDM Meme-11, Mbonge where he was the Section president. Yet the senator regretted that Chief Ekong’s family may never be replaced in his family, giving the very far-fetched qualities that he possessed.
The memorial service in honour of the late Mayor Chief Ekong was presided over by the chaplain of Presbyterian High School Kumba, Rev. Mbubeng John, who called on all to turn to God as the master of all mankind, while also calling on the population to emulate the philanthropic gestures of the late chief.
It was attended amongst others by some chiefs of the area, the new chief of Big Nganjo, MPs, mayors, CPDM bigwigs, the SG of the Ministry of Higher Education and a stampeding crowd of friends and sympathizers.
It featured traditional dances from various parts of the village as well as a heavy feast all provided by Senator Otte Andrew Mofa.
