Women’s Day in at Limbe City Council |
The
Government Delegate to the Limbe City Council Andrew Motanga Monjimba has
hailed the women of the city of Limbe
for taking the lead in political
emancipation and ending discrimination for the past close to 50 years. The
Government Delegate was speaking at the Limbe Community Field on the occasion
of the 33rd edition of the International Women’s Day.
According to him, at a time when the
world is standing up against all forms of discrimination against women ,the
city of Limbe has proven beyond reasonable doubt that it can empower and has
continued to empower women especially in the political domain where they are
able to drive sustainable change and development in the community. Motanga
pointed out that since independence Limbe has produced a series of female
parliamentarians and mayors, beginning with Honorables Elizabeth Mokeba,
Honourable Gwendolyn Burnley , Honourable Catherine Eposi Meboka the first ever female Mayor in
Cameroon, Honourable Rachel Lyonga
Celestine and now Honourable Etombi Ikome Gladys.
The Government Delegate went on to
say this is ample testimony that the city of Limbe is more than ready to
empower the girl child and build a sustainable partnership for development. He
thus said the city will take all the appropriate measures will be taken to
ensure that all girl children in the municipality go to school.
On her part the Divisional Delegate
of Women Empowerment and the Family for Fako Mme Veronica Nkwenti on her part
said this year’s theme which is ending all forms of discrimination against
women and speeding partnership for sustainable development is very relevant to
Cameroon given that it comes at a time when the Cameroonian woman is still
discriminated upon and often left out of decision making processes. She thus
urged all to reflect on them and look for ways of engaging women in all
development processes without discrimination.
The SDO for Fako Engamba Emmanuel
Ledoux who chaired the celebrations used the opportunity to call on women to
join in the peace building processes given that they are the cornerstone of the
family, the community and the nation at large. He said women should be involved
in all the peace processes at this particularly challenging period of crisis so
that peace can return to all communities.
The event was also attended by the
General Manager of SONARA, Ibrahim Talba Malla
and a host of other dignitaries.
