Cavaye Yeguie
The entire bureau of the national assembly has been reelected to pilot the affairs of the house for the last year of their 5-year mandate. Cavaye Yeguie and his team were elected during a plenary session on Saturday 3 March 2018. The session was presided over by the eldest member of the lower house of parliament, Hon. Enoh Tanjong. It was witnessed by the representative of the Vice PM in charge of relations with the assemblies, Minister Gregoire Owona.
Cavaye yeguie collected 140 of the 158 votes cast, scoring an absolute majority.
“I declare him Speaker of the National assembly of Cameroon,” said Hon. Enoh Tanjong to a roarous applause of Parliamentarians.
Cavaye;s reelection came as no surprise especially for those who have been watching activities at the national assembly for the past over three decades.
“Hon. Cavaye knows all the nooks and crannies of the house; he masters the problems of the house and cam better address them,” said Hon. Wallang Richard, who opined that it would be preposterous to elect a green horn at this time when the country is facing numerous problems.

Hon. Wallang was re-echoed by Hon. Enwe Francis who also opined that Hon. Cavaye has the requisite mastery and experience for the national assembly top job, especially given the turbulent period the country is going through.
For his part, Hon. Cavaye expressed profound gratitude to the MPs for renewing their confidence in him. He also thanked the head of state for the trust and confidence while promising to do his utmost best to live up to the billing of the job.
Cavaye then presided over the election of the First Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Hilarion Etong, and the CPDM Group Leader, Hon. Ndongo Essomba.
Cavaye also read out the names of the five deputy speakers, four questors and 12 secretaries.
It should be noted that the members of the former bureau were all proposed in a single list and were all retained in their positions.
Cavaye Yeguie Djibril is expected to chair the deliberations when the two houses of parliament meet tomorrow Tuesday, 6 March 2018, in congress to install the members of the constitutional council.
