Buea Municipalty:

Hospital chapel, flower market & council canteen inaugurated
New flower market constructed adjacent
to the hospital mortuary
Barely a fortnight after he inaugurated some landmark, people-centred projects in Wotutu and Boana, the Mayor of Buea on Friday, 1 April 2016 also inaugurated a modern chapel and a flower market at the Buea Regional Hospital Mortuary.
Speaking on the occasion, Ekema Patrick Esunge said the chapel would serve for prayers and viewing of corpses during coffining ceremonies. He explained that the chapel would also prevent the situation that obtained before, whereby mourners had to get right into the mortuary to view and pray for their dead. He said this exposed the mourners to the risk of contracting infections diseases from exposed corpses.
As for the flower market, Patrick Ekema said it would put an end to the difficulties that mourners encountered whenever they needed to buy wreaths for funerals, especially given that the nearest flower market was at mile 16 Bolifamba.

The mayor exhorted the hospital authorities to handle the structures jealously and to run to the council whenever repair works are needed.
That was not all! Mayor Ekema after the ceremonies at the hospital, moved to the council chambers where he also inaugurated a modern canteen.
Constructed behind the imposing council building, the canteen is intended to serve both council staff and the general public. It is equipped with a kitchen and an airy restaurant and bar, equipped with modern chairs, tables and TV sets.
“The era when council staff and visitors had to walk long distances to procure food and drinks is over. They can now simply take a leisurely stroll down to the canteen and get a cool-off whenever the need arise,” mayor Ekema said.
The tiring itinerary of the Lord Mayor culminated in a New Year Wishes presentation ceremony at the council hall.
The ceremony was occasion for staff of the council to present New Year wishes to the mayor who was flanked by his wife and the deputy mayors.
It was also occasion to acknowledge and reward meritorious workers who had distinguished themselves in the course of the previous year. It was not surprising to many that the humble and workaholic Press Officer of the council, Mua Paul Kum, was elected the overall best worker.
Mua Paul who is a former Buea correspondent of The Median, also reports for the CPDM party propaganda tabloid, L’Action.
Heavy feasting at the council chambers crowned the Mayor’s marathon itinerary.
