The health minister also took to twitter to hail medics for successfully delivering a covid-19 positive lady of her baby.
“We welcomed this 11:12pm, the first baby born to a covid-19 positive mother at the Central hospital of Yaounde,” Manounda tweeted, while congratulating Dr. Yaneu, the medic who was on duty and his team for the achievement.
According to Prof Anne Esther Njom Nlend, neonatologist and Associate Professor of Paediatrics, separation from the mother is not necessary and breastfeeding is very possible, provided the mother puts on a face mask.
She has equally recommended the baby be placed in an incubator in a dedicated area for a fourteen-day quarantine period or less, and if possible confined at home, according to its condition.

Mass Sensitisation Campaign

Government last week launched a mass door-to-door sensitization campaign in Douala in the Littoral region, the second highest affected region to help curb the spread of the virus. Through the campaign, the samples of some 2330 persons will be screened as revealed by Minister Manaouda.
He added that his team to the region has successfully visited some 8360 households and evaluated some 198 640 people with 85.2% rate of acceptance against 14.8% rate of refusal. He revealed that the process will help screen and isolate positive cases earlier enough.

Construction of Isolation Centres Nears Completion
Works at the makeshift isolation centres to host positive coronavirus cases under construction are almost near completion.  One of the centres, the Yaounde Military Stadium will play host to some 600 patients while a structure at the Mvog Mbi neighbourhood previously occupied by a supermarket will host 200 cases. The upper floor of the structure has been renovated to contain some 200 beds while the basement will be used to host the laboratories, oxygen supply system, mobile toilets as well as other administrative units.
In the same light, six sites have been reserved to host COVID-19 positive patients in Douala. The sites are notably the gynaeco-obstetric and Pediatric hospital in Yassa (which will host critical cases), the Logbaba district hospital, the Bonamoussadi and Nkoulouloun health centres and the Reunification stadium. The sites were chosen following a coordination meeting between local administrative authorities and officials of the Ministry of Public Health in Douala.
