Celebrating Greater Achievements: Y’de III Mayor Tours Projects Sites, Donates To Schools & Social Centres

 As part of activities to commemorate the 38th anniversary of President Biya’s ascension to power, the Yaounde III Mayor, Lucas Owona, Friday 6 November, undertook an inspection tour of projects sites in his municipality. He also distributed ‘minimum packages’ and COVID-19 prevention kits to schools and social centres.

In keeping with his election promises, and as part of activities to commemorate the 38th anniversary of President Biya’s ascension to power, the Mayor of Yaounde III municipality in Mfoundi Division of the Centre region, undertook a tour of development projects in his municipality.

 Mayor Lucas Owona who is barely eight months in office after his election in the 9 February 2020 municipal election was on the field on Friday 6 October to size up the level of execution of ongoing projects in his municipality.
    Accompanied by the DO and assistant DO of Yaounde III, the Senator, deputy mayors, the SG of the council and members of the council’s infrastructure committee among other officials, Mayor Owona, explained that the outing was aimed to also keep the population abreast of what the new executive of the council has been doing, its projects in perspective and to listen to them about their priority needs.
    The Mayor and his delegation inspected a classrooms construction site at GS Etoa; construction sites for solar-powered boreholes at Ezala; road construction and extension project at Terre Rouge-Pont Oyack to link Efoulan Pont to Nsimeyong II.
    Mayor Owona also inspected rehabilitation works at the Nsam Market that will soon be transformed into a giant shopping centre with shops, cold stores, slaughterhouses and modern sheds, as well as ongoing works at the Y’de III council annex building.
    He noted that the council has vigorously fought the spread of the covid-19 as well as created a communication unit to inform the public of its actions. .
    Lucas Owona also announced projects in perspective, citing ongoing studies to modernize the Efoulan Lac quarters with assistance from FEICOM; building of roadside stalls; construction of the Nsam modern market; digging of more boreholes and building of more classrooms among others.
    Expressing satisfaction at the evolution of the projects visited, the Mayor assured the population of Etoa that the road leading to the primary school would be made passable in the short run, while its eventual tarring will be imputed in the 2021 budget of the council. 
    The Mayor proceeded to donate the council’s ‘minimum package’ as well as anti covid-19 kits to primary and secondary schools in the area, to ensure a safe school environment.
    What’s more, food items were also distributed to over 12 social centres, orphanages and associations in the municipality.
    The Mayor urged heads of beneficiary schools and social centres to make judicious use of the donations, saying that the donations translate the president’s love and determination to alleviate the plight of the underprivileged, especially the youth and women. 
    The ‘minimum package’ comprised packets of chalk, pens, books, toilet tissue, wash hand buckets, gallons, facemasks, hydro-alcoholic gels, wheelbarrows, bags of rice and other food items for social centres.
    Senator Elie Victor Essomba appreciated the Mayor’s people-centred and community-driven vision. He lauded his open-door policy and team spirit, saying he has no doubt the municipality will be completely transformed during his mandate. 
    The event unfolded under the watchful eyes of the DO of Yaounde III, Biwele Herve Sal who appreciated the Mayor’s output and challenged all and sundry to continue respecting the anti-covid-19 barriers measures prescribed by government.
