Elites and Chiefs of the Bafaw Clan of the Southwest
region have hailed President Paul Biya for renewing his confidence on their
Paramount Ruler, Hon. Nfon Victor Essemingsongo Mukete, by appointing him to the
senate for the second time in five years.
The
Chiefs and elites drawn from the SW and beyond on Tuesday 24 April 2018 rallied
at Nfon Mukete’s Bastos residence in Yaounde, where they performed traditional
rites in his honour and praise.
Bafaw
elites, both men and women, who also thronged the Patriarch’s residence,
performed cultural displays to portray their unreserved joy for the mark of
high confidence shown their Paramount Ruler by the Head of State, President
Paul Biya.
The
colourful ceremony marked by speeches, dancing, singing and heavy feasting took
place shortly after the close of the session to re-open the senate for the 2nd
legislature. Nfon V.E Mukete was once again exalted at the opening session, as
he was given the pride of place as the eldest member of the senate (Doyen
d’Age) to preside over the business of the day.
The
Doyen d’Age used the occasion of the opening session to hail Biya for the mark
of high trust and confidence bestowed in his modest person.
“Your
Excellency Mr. President of the Republic, Please accept the expression of my
sincere gratitude for this new sign of trust with which you have honored my
humble self by appointing me as senator for a second term. As a very
enlightened Head of State and a great democrat seeking to let justice triumph
wherever in the interest of national cohesion, you have renewed your utmost
trust in me despite the fake news which was prepared and levied on my person in
a bid to shove me out of the national political scene, and vast experience of
positive action in the different projects carried out since the end of the
British and French Trusteeships, to consolidate the borders of our country
Cameroon……..I am conscious and I admire your policy and your action towards
consolidating the borders of our fatherland,” Nfon Mukete said on the rostrum
of the Senate.
“Today,
through this action, no responsible citizen can ignore the truth whereby
Cameroon is a unitary state and one in which decentralization remains the only
effective system of administrative management…..Mr. President of the Republic,
I remain committed to this idea and I shall defend this till the end of my
days, to support the great humanist and vigorous head of state who is committed
to the unity of his country,” said the Doyen d’Age to the rousing applause of
the full house of senators, government ministers and members of the public
present at the re-opening ceremony.
Meanwhile,
at the residence of the Nfon, the spokesperson for the Bafaw Chiefs, HRH Akama,
also hailed President Biya for his visionary leadership and prayed him to
consider continuing at the helm of the state for many more years.
As for
the Paramount Ruler, Nfon Mukete, the spokesperson for the Bafaw Chiefs
showered him with praises for standing by the truth at all times. HRH Akama
said because of this mark of high honour shown to Nfon Mukete by the Head of
State, the Bafaw community in Cameroon has also thought proper and expedient to
re-crown the Nfon as their Paramount Ruler.
Urging
the Nfon to remain glued to his policy of truth and love for his people, Chief
Akama on behalf of all Bafaw Chiefs handed a copy of “The Holy Bible” to the
Nfon, saying it is a symbol of their wish for the Nfon to bequeath truth and
only the truth to his people when God calls him home.
In
response to the mark of confidence from his native Bafaw community, Nfon Mukete
said he was short of adjectives to use in expressing his joy.
“All I
can say is “thank you” for the honour and allegiance,” said Nfon Mukete, as he
took the Bible.
The ceremony
was witnessed by dignitaries including the Minister, Assistant SG of the
Presidency, Elung Paul Che, Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga
Nji, Senators Tabetando George, Mbella Moki Charles and Papinatou Fonderson, GM
of Camtel, Government Delegate of Kumba, Mayor of Konye amongst many others.
