Grand councilors who make up the Kumba city council board
have unanimously placed a ban on the transportation of iron rods on the few
tarred roads in the town of Kumba. The agreement was arrived at on Wednesday 18
April 2018 at the city hall during deliberations to examine the 2017
administrative, management and stores account of the city council.
The grand councilors noted with dismay the arbitrary
destruction of the roads in the town as a result of the pulling of iron rods
tied behind motorbikes, trucks and other vehicles that end up scrubbing the tar
and destroying it.
In a
calm session as opposed the fireworks that use to be registered between the
government delegate and the grand councilors, the administrative, management
and stores account of the city council was satisfactorily adopted at a
realization rate of 59.73%.
While
presenting the balance sheet of the city council, the government delegate,
Victor NgohNkelleunveiled that the 2017 budget was drawn to balance in revenue
and expenditure at the sum FCFA one billion, six hundred and sixty nine
million, nine hundred and sixty five thousands and forty two francs (1 669. 965
042).
Ngoh
Nkelle added that out of that amount the sum of FCFA 1.079.997.303 billion was
collected giving a 64.67% while FCFA 997.473.322 million was spent giving an
expenditure execution rate of 59.73% leading to a surplus in budget of FCFA
102.523.981.
As a means of improving internal revenue, the government
delegate revealed studies were made to collect revenue on aspects of games of
chance and entertainment and sundry library activities adding that reforms on
the advertisement taxes were already yielding enormous fruits.
He noted
the achievements on revenue collections are as a result of the appointment of a
chief of service for the municipal police and town planning sector that has
caused a revival of revenue collections on building permits. He however decried the non-cancellation of
the ban on the collection of parking taxes from bike riders as a result of the
socio-political tension in the two Anglophone regions of the country.
On areas
of achievement, the government delegate noted the city council has excelled in
terms of development in areas like purchase of land along the Kumba-Mamfe road
at the tune of 13.5 million for waste disposal, arrival of the long awaited
tractors of the African Development Bank along other accessories pending its
distributions to the various localities, execution of the second phase of the
project for the Mambungise stream, stabilization of the banks of the stream by planting trees, and sundry projects
to tar street in Kumbain the days ahead and the supply of electricity at
Mambanda park, grading of roads, construction of culverts amongst others.
The
session was under the watchful eyes of Meme SDO, Chamberlin Ntou’ouNdong who
called on the grand councilors to continue with their spirit of collaboration
with the city council and give the much needed developments to the city of
Kumba.
