At least five Ambazonia gunmen who fell on the field of battle are currently
recieving medical care at the Yaounde Military Hospital, officials confirmed
last week.
Visiting
the hospital to console wounded soldiers receiving medical attention there, the
Minister of Defence said the government is not only concerned about the health
of government forces alone, but is also concerned about Ambazonian fighters who
have been brought there for treatment.
«They
call themselves Ambazonians but they are citizens of Cameroon. That is why the
government cannot abandon them to themselves,» said Minister Joseph Beti
Assomo, who at once noted that the Ambazonia gunmen upon regaining their health
will be handed to the judiciary to answer for their crimes.
Beti
Assomo during his over one hour stay with the over 50 wounded soldiers extended
to them the comfort and encouragements of the Commander-in-chief of the Armed
Forces, President Paul Biya. He assured them that the government will spare no
effort to ensure their speedy recovery.
The
defence minister told the war victims that the President has given instructions
for all cases that cannot be handled in the country to be evacuated abroad for
treatment. Cases that were evacuated abroad privately would be looked into by
the government for possible reimbursement of the medical expenses incured, Beti
Assomo Assured.
The
Defence Minister was accompanied to the hospital by the SG of the Ministry of
Defence Kalsouloum Said and the Army Chief of Staff, General Rene Claude Meka
among other top military officials.
