NW governor uplift the ban on the cirulation of motorbikes in Balikumbat |
The Governor of the North West region, Lele Lafrique
Adolphe has uplifted the ban on the circulation of motorbikes in Balikumbat
Subdivision, Ngoketunjia Division but has maintained that of Batibo Subdivision
and Widikum Subdivision of Momo Division.
The
decision is contained in a regional order, No 30/RO/E/GNWR/SG/PAOD signed by
Lele Lafrique Adolphe on May 4, 2018.
“As from
the date of signature of this present order, the suspension of the circulation
of motorbikes is hereby uplifted in Balikumbat Subdivision, Ngoketunjia
Division. The regional order taken to suspend the circulation of motorbikes
remains valid in Batibo and Widikum Subdivisions of Momo Division” the order
reads.
It is
worth noting that on March 8, 2018 Governor Lele Lafrique Adolphe in a regional
order, No 25/RO/E/GNWR/SG/PAOD banned the circulation of moto bikes in
Balikumbat, Batibo and Widikum, citing “the exigencies of security,
preservation of peace and the maintenance of law and order” as reason for the
ban.
However,
administrative motorbikes, those engaged in security operations by the forces
of law and order and those in possession of a special authorization were
allowed to circulate.
The
incidence of separatist elements using motorbikes to stage guerilla-style
attacks on security forces is believed to be behind the order.
