Meme Journalists Told to Uphold Ethics, Integrity

Meme journalists pose with communication delegate, CAMASEJ President on world press freedom day
The Divisional Delegate of Communication for Meme has urged all media practitioners in the Division to uphold professional integrity in all they do in the phase on the ongoing socio-political tension in the two Anglophone Regions.
            Cynthia Molua Mbu made the call on Thursday May 3, 2018 at the auditorium of the Lake Site Radio in Kumba while presiding over activities to commemorate the 2018 edition of the International World Press Freedom Day celebrated every May 3.
            While harping on the theme of this year’s celebration “Keeping power in check: Media justice and the rule of law” the Meme communication boss called on all practitioners to shun hear-says, charlatanisms and embrace good professional practices that will keep them clean within the phase of the law.
            Quizzed on her appraisal of the unfolding of events in her area of command for over the year, Madam Molua praised Meme journalist for all they have done in order to calm down the rising tensions in the Division and as well professionally scored Meme journalists on a pass mark of 80% in the domain of upholding journalistic professionalism and deontology.
            On his part, the Meme, Kupe Muanenguba, Manyu and Lebialem giant chapter president, Nyambot Divine urged all and sundry to embrace good reporting while shunning sentiments in all they do in order not to fall prey in the law while playing their relentless role in ending the social tension in the division.

            He called on journalists to carryout sincere investigations and have facts before publishing or broadcasting. He praise the maturity, unity and togetherness of Meme Journalists who so far have not been dragged to court or better still involve in any arrest in the ongoing crisis as well as praised them to continue in same light so as not to fall prey on the facts.
            The event also witnessed the presence of the National President of the Cameroon Association of English Speaking Journalists, CAMASEJ, Larry Esong who also praised the professionalism of Meme Journalists and called for more integrity especially as elections approaches.
            The event also had a powerful presentation from Barrister Atoh Walters, a Human Rights enthusiast, on the theme: “Media and human rights in today’s world”. He stressed on the need for the respect of the rights of media practitioners and condemned administrative information hoarding. He called on media men to continue fighting for their rights while respecting the law the guides their practice.
            The event was under the watchful eyes of the Third Assistant SDO for Meme, Ntonye George who as well congratulated and saluted the bravery of Meme media men in the phase of the ongoing crisis and urged them to stand for the truth at all times.
