MINADER donates maize seeds to farmers

By Eddy Bokuba in Kumba
The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Esimi Menye Lazare has donated maize seeds to farmers of Meme Division of the South West Region. The donation of the high yielding seed variety code named CMS8704 is aimed to increase production. The minister’s gesture which is in line with the government’s resolve to increase food production and ensure food security was well appreciated by the farmers.

Reacting to The Median, Meme Divisional Delegate for Agriculture, Richard Molua said the gesture is timely since it comes at a period when things are very hard for the farmers. He noted that during the launching of the 2014 Farming season at Melong, the Ministry of Agriculture provided seeds to farmers but it was not enough to satisfy all the farmers. He said he was fortunate to meet one of the Director's of the Ministry of Agriculture who offered to intervene and make good the lag by sending an extra 5 tons of maize seeds. 12 Farming groups and 87 individuals have so far benefited from the initiative.
